Mikrobiologie (Prof. Schleifer) in München (1988), Postdoc an der Universität von Illinois (1988-89), Assistent am Lst. Mikrobiologie der TU München (1990-96), Habilitation mit dem Thema "In situ Identifikation von Bakterien auf Einzelzellebene mit rRNA gerichteten Oligonukleotidsonden" an der TU München (1995).
