- Seasonal and tidal dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the water column and in pore waters of the coastal North Sea
- Molecular characterization of DOM to determine different DOM sources, organo-metal interactions and to relate molecular to optical (chromophoric) properties
- Analysis of biomarkers (e.g. intact polar lipids) to investigate the size and structure of microbial communities in the deeper anoxic zone of tidal flat sediments and for chemotaxonomic characterization of pure microbial cultures
