Nupur Potukuchi and Nur M Farhad awarded poster prices at the It Ma(t)Ters Conference 2026
Two students of the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group received the first and second poster prizes at the It Ma(t)Ters Joint Conference for Terrestrial and Marine Microbiology, held from 26-28 May 2026.
Nupur Potukuchi was awarded the first poster prize for presenting her PhD project on the role of immunity in marine transmissible cancers. Nur M. Farhad received the second poster prize for his Master thesis work on automated hemic neoplasia diagnosis in common cockles using image analysis approaches. For both, this was their first experience designing and presenting a scientific poster, making the recognition particularly rewarding. The conference provided an excellent environment for early-career researchers to discuss their work, exchange ideas, and gain experience communicating science.
The It Ma(t)Ters conference is jointly organized by the Max Planck Institutes for Marine Microbiology in Bremen and Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg. The meeting brings together researchers working across marine and terrestrial microbiology and includes keynote lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, workshops and networking activities focused on microbiology, bioinformatics, molecular interactions, and microbial adaptation.
