The virtue of the candle lies not in the wax that leaves its trace, but in its light.
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Wisdom of the Sands
Another year is coming to an end, eventful and exciting. In 2019, we welcomed two new research groups to the institute and took the opportunity to give our "Quote in Time" a new home. For the construction work for our institute’s extension have already begun. Many exciting research expeditions have taken us all over the world - from the North Sea to the Gulf of Mexico to the Southern Ocean. One or the other new award now adorns the offices of some of our researchers, and we were able to congratulate Prof. Dr. Gotthilf Hempel, who was also involved in the founding of the Max Planck Institute in Bremen, on his 90th birthday. Numerous scientific publications show the activities of our institute as well as the events in which we present ourselves to the public – from Science Goes Public to the Ocean Day, preferably in our new hoodies and T-shirts!
Now this year is drawing to a close. Many thanks to all colleagues from far and near for a beautiful and successful year!
We wish you all a Merry Christmas, relaxing holidays and a Happy New Year!
