Department of Biogeochemistry

Under the direction of Bo Barker Jørgensen the Biogeochemistry Department focused on sedimentary iron, sulfur and carbon biogeochemistry. With the initiation of the transfer of the Directorship from Bo Barker Jørgensen to Marcel Kuypers (phase-in phase-out period; July 2009 to October 2011), the research emphasis of the Biogeochemistry Department takes on new directions, with particular emphasis on water column processes and nutrient cycling. We have begun the process of unifying the Biogeochemistry, Mathematical Modeling, and Nutrient Groups. In 2011 these groups will phase-out as independent entities and merge into a single department. Research pursued within the new department will integrate key research themes of the Biogeochemistry, Nutrient, and Mathematical Modeling Groups.
