Information on the MPI-Library

General Information

The library of the Max-Planck-Institute for marine microbiology is a service unit for the scientific work at the institute (for further information also read the users instructions).

Therefore it provides electronic media and information, which are necessary for the internationally oriented basic research in the fields of marine microbiology and bordering subject areas. This media and information supply is developed and sophisticated according to the research profile of the institute. Currently the stock contains approximately 3000 volumes and approximately 60 continually delivered journals.

Media and information from the libraries supply are rapidly processed and represented easily available. Needed scientific literature and information will be immediately obtained by us if they are not available in the library. Offers like online-catalogue, access to numerous databases, editing of internet based information, intranet are constantly verified and developed and adapted to the necessities of scientists.

The online-catalogue lists up all literature that has been purchased by the library since 1993.

We aim to convey a better basis of usage of the offered media and information to our users by personal consultation, frequently introduction- and training-offers.

Notes for external users of the MPI-library

About the granting of a workspace for longer studies the institute management decides on request by the leader of a research group.

We beg our external users comprehension that the personnel of the library deals the scientific work of the institute with priority. The usage of technical equipment has to be agreed on.

Prices for copies (5 Cent per page, 10 Cent per double page and DIN A3) have to be filled in the appropriate form and are to be paid at the telephone office. Floppy disks for the transmission of enquiry results will not be provided by us.
