Research Projects

Role of continental shelves in nutrient cycling and organic matter transformation

(with Hannah Marchant, Soeren Ahmerkamp)

This project is a part of the Excellence Cluster in University of Bremen "The Ocean Floor - Earth's Uncharted Interface" in Receiver Unit theme 2.

The research will be focusing on filling significant knowledge gaps in the organic carbon transformation by the benthic primary producers, mainly,

  • Transfer and transformation of OM and nutrients between the water column and sand and the impact of sediment movement
  • Abundance of primary producers on the seabed and their role in stabilize sediment and their contribution to biogeochemical cycling
